TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Racing for a reason: Senior Airman Billy Ancheta, 349th Mission Support Group, personnel employment technician; Master Sgt. Carmen Ochoa, command support staff and Staff Sgt. Tammy Elam, operations support staff, both from the 349th Civil Engineering Squadron, braved the unusually cold winds to take up the challenge to run 1.5 hour segments of the 12 hour Viking Challenge held at Travis AFB on April 19, 2008. The Viking Challenge is an annual benefit run to raise money for the Fisher House located on base. The Travis Fisher House is one of many such facilities around the world, which provides free or low-cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers. 349th Honor Guard

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- To honor with dignity: Col. Linda L. Harlan, commander of the 349th Mission Support Group, praises 16 members of the Travis AFB Honor Guard, all reservists with the 349th Air Mobility Wing, after presenting them with their awards at the annual Honor Guard Recognition Luncheon held at the Travis Air Museum, Apr. 6. Each member receives an achievement award two years in a row, and the third year they are awarded a meritorious service metal. This award cycle continues for the duration of the time served in the Honor Guard. The event finale was the presentation of the 349th AMW James Ernest Award for Base Honor Guardsman of the Year, awarded to Technical Sgt. Glen Miller, 349th Logistics Readiness Flight Fuel Specialist. While waiting for the event to begin, honor guard member Technical Sgt. John MacKenzie, 349th Aeromedical Staging Squadron Medical Technician, expressed his feelings about what he does in the honor guard, “To be able to serve the local community and honor the veterans is the greatest reward,” MacKenzie said. Sergeant Deleon was the runner and equipment monitor for the 349th CMS Fuel Shop during a confined space extraction exercise held March 6 in hangar P-14 for the 349th AMW’s Unit Compliance Inspection. TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., -- The welcome line: Col. Maryanne Miller, commander for the 349th Air Mobility Wing at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., shakes hands with 1st. Lt. Dustin Doyle, Chief of Assignments Branch for the Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB, Ga., as he departs a C-17 aircraft, March 3.
