All- weather Airman takes on Antarctica

Chief Master Sgt. Michael Beck competes in the St. Patrick's Day race, the "Shamrock Shuffle," during his tour of duty at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. The Fire Chief with the 349th Civil Engineer Squadron here, he volunteered for an eight-month rotation to support operations at the remote station. TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Master Sgt. Trevor Thorpe, 349 Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, was awarded a certificate of appreciation March 26 for his support with the Airman and Family Readiness cell phone collection program by Master Sgt. Pam Silas. Thorpe's civilian company, XO Communications, donated more than 1,500 cell phones and accessories which resulted in the Lyons Club donating more than 7,500 calling card minutes which is given to wing members that deploy and attend basic training. The former mayor was instrumental in the revitalization of the Plaza after it closed and fell into disrepair.
