Team Travis 9/11 Event
TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Airmen of the 349th Air Moblity Wing stand in formation for a 10th anniversary 9/11 retreat ceremony Sunday. Around the world, ceremonies remembered those who died on that day in 2001, a day that changed the world forever, and plunged us into a war still going on today. These Airmen also paid tribute to, and won't forget, all their brothers and sisters in military service, who have died in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world, as a result of 9/11. Speaker for the the retreat was Col. Jay Flournoy, 349th AMW commander, who was a young major on duty at the Pentagon 9/11, 2001, where American Airlines Flight 77 plowed into the building, killing 59 on board, 125 in the Pentagon. Followed by a 21-gun volley, retreat was sounded, the flag was retired, and a bagpiper played "Amazing Grace" to end this solemn and reflective duty day for Travis Air Force Base.
