As part of the recall from furlough of most Department of Defense civilians, dual-status Air Reserve Technicians and Air Force Civilians returned to work Oct. 7, 2012 at the 349th Air Mobility Wing. In accordance with Defense Department policy, the returning staff may only perform "excepted" duties necessary for the protection of life, property and ongoing military operations. More than 360 of the wing's full-time cadre were idled last week as a part of the furlough of government employees.
Without a Defense budget or continuing resolution, there are still limitations on routine training and operations. The A-Flight drill weekend, previously scheduled for Oct. 4-5, was rescheduled to Oct. 26-27. No change has been made yet to the B-Flight drill weekend of 19-20 Oct. Unit Commanders have been directed to afford all members maximum flexibility to participate once a budget or CRA is approved.
