TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Col. Jay Flournoy speaks to a crowd of more than 400 Travis Air Force Base family, friends and retirees, at the 10th anniversary 9/11 Retreat and Remembrance ceremony Sunday. That fateful day in 2001, he was a young major on duty at the Pentagon, who heard, and felt, the concussion when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building, killing all 59 on board, and 125 on duty at the Pentagon. TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --The Travis Air Force Base Honor Guard fires a 21-gun volley to signal the sounding of retreat Sunday, the 10th anniversary of 9/11. More than 400 family, friends and retirees joined Travis Airmen to remember those who perished 10 years ago, in the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil. About 120 Airmen stood in formation and rendered honors at the end of the duty day, a tribute as well, to their brothers and sisters in arms, who have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, launched shortly after the 2001 attacks. TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Airmen of the 349th Air Mobility Wing stand in formation for a 10th anniversary 9/11 retreat ceremony Sunday, Sept. 11.

Around the world, ceremonies remembered those who died on that day in 2001, a day that changed the world forever, and plunged us into a war still going on today.

These Airmen also paid tribute to, and won't forget, all their brothers and sisters in military service, who have died in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world, as a result of 9/11.

Speaker for the retreat was Col. Jay Flournoy, 349th AMW commander, who was a young major on duty at the Pentagon 9/11, 2001, where American Airlines Flight 77 plowed into the building, killing 59 on board, 125 in the Pentagon. Followed by a 21-gun volley, retreat was sounded, the flag was retired, and a bagpiper played "Amazing Grace" to end this solemn and reflective duty day for Travis Air Force Base.
