HCC tour Team Travis Operations Group
Travis Air Force Base Honorary Commanders toured the 60th Operations Group June 7, 2019, the first of four group tours for this year. Col. Theresa Weems, 60th OG commander provided a mission briefing, followed by briefings from intelligence and weather. The group visited the 60th Operations Support Squadron Tower, and were treated to both a KC-10 Extender and a C-5M Super Galaxy taking off from the runway. They visited the Radar Approach Control Center, where airmen monitor the air space and traffic from a dark room lit only by screens displaying Travis and local air space, which includes the wind farm in close proximity to the base. They dropped into the KC-10 Cargo Load Trainer to watch aerial port airmen train to load pallets of cargo, vehicles and more on a facsimile of a KC-10. Honorary Commanders are partnered with leaders from the 60th Air Mobility Wing and the Reserve’s 349th AMW, as well as the 621st Contingency Response Wing west. The next tour is scheduled for Aug. 8, when the HCCs will visit David Grant U.S. Air Force Medical Center. (U.S. Air Force photos / Released / Ellen Hatfield)
