More than 600 eighth grade students from 14 Northern California middle schools listen as Karen Kosiba, an atmospheric scientist, gives a presentation during a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math event at Travis Air Force Base, California, Feb. 27, 2019. The event titled X-STEM at Travis was the first of its kind on an Air Force installation and featured a ‘TED’ style symposium with four guest speakers from STEM career fields. The event covered a wide array of subject areas such as space exploration, storm chasing, oceanography, the science of social networks, the physics of superheroes and mathematical puzzles.
