TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Maj. Jeff Galon (right) relinquished command of the 45th Aerial Port Squadron, and Maj. Cary Simpson (center) assumed command, November A-flight. Official for the proceedings was Col. Linda L. Harlan, 349th Mission Support Group commander. Maj. Simpson is an Air Force "brat" born at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. His Dad retired from Beale AFB, Calif. He has lived most of his life in California. He had 13 years in the Army Reserve as an Engineer and communications officer. He came to the AF Reserve in 2001 because "I needed a change from the Army." He deployed to Joint Base Balad, Iraq, in 2007. His comments: "I like the environment in the Air Force Reserve. Here at the 45th APS we have a great joint task force mission." "The difference between the AF Reserve and Army Reserve is like night and day." He went on to say, "We have mountains of movement at the APS, moving countless tons of equipment, people and supplies. It's a challenge and I love that." In his civilian life he is a substitute teacher in Sutter County. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Wendy Weidenhamer)
