Operation Unified Relief

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Medical personnel at Travis Air Force Base board a C-17 Globemaster bound for Haiti, as they bid farewell to Col. James Vechery, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander. About 38 Airmen packed the aircraft full with medical supplies, medicines and equipment, including a "hospital in a box," to support the ongoing Haitian relief efforts in the wake of a devastating Jan. 12 earthquake. Local television stations and news outlets, escorted by the Airmen of the 60th AMW, 349th AMW and 615th Contingency Response Wing public affairs offices, interviewed the deployers and families, and filmed their departure for local news casts. The medical professions from David Grant Medical Center and other squadrons, could be gone anywhere from 30 days to six months to provide desperately needed medical care for the beleaguered Haitians.
