349th MXS
TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Cailf. -- Senior Amn. Jon Kirk pulls a loose piece of the non-skid black strips from the deck of a C-5 Galaxy to demonstrate its degraded and unserviceable condition. Airman Kirk, an aircraft mechanic and crew chief, is part of a team of 349th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Airmen on active duty orders to complete the refurbishing of this C-5 in dire need of a "facelift." The entire deck of the interior will be outfitted with new non-skid strips as part of the beautification project, which is also part of keeping the aircraft safe. Airman Kirk, a native of Fairfield and the third generation in his family bleeding Air Force blue, was recently featured in an interview with a local area publication. (U.S. Air Force photo/SMSgt.
