Nearly 100 members of the 349th Air Mobility Wing spent three hours in an annual self-aid and buddy care hands-on skills training facilitated by the 349th Aerospace Medicine Squadron at the David Grant Medical Center on Nov. 9, 2014.

The training began with a PowerPoint introduction led by Chief Master Sgt. Frederick Baquiran, Chief Enlisted Manager of the 349th Medical Squadron and finished with a hand-on training led by Master Sgt. Melanie Pascua, 349th AMW SABC Advisor.

During the hands-on portion, members practiced several techniques to open the airway of an injured person, and practiced assessing open wounds and applying Quick Clot gauze, bandages or tourniquets to prevent the loss of limb or life.

These training sessions take place annually to keep Airmen prepared for any type of emergency that could take place on or off the clock.

Self-aid and buddy care has saved countless limbs and lives while administered on and off the battlefield.
