TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 349th Air Mobility Wing (AMW) is holding an inactivation ceremony for the 45th Aerial Port Squadron (APS) on Saturday, Aug. 2, 3 p.m. at 501 Hangar Avenue, Bldg. 46, Travis Air Force Base, California. The ceremony will honor the squadron's history and its contributions to the Air Force.
Due to manpower restructuring and realignment, the 45th APS was inactivated on July 2, after 61 years of dedicated service. Tracing its linage to the 915th Aerial Port Flight, the unit was activated in 1961. The flight was deactivated in 1972. It was redesignated as 45th Aerial Port Squadron on July 20, 1981, and reactivated in the Air Force Reserve on Oct. 1, 1981.
The 349th AMW, located at Travis Air Force Base, Calif., is the largest associate wing in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. More than 2,700 reservists and civilian personnel are assigned to the wing. With the arrival of the KC-46A Pegasus at Travis AFB in 2023, the 349th AMW flies it along with the C-5 Super Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III. Currently, it is the only Air Force Reserve unit that flies three weapons systems as well as having an aeromedical mission.
