B.O.L.D. Resilience Training Focuses on Leadership Development

Airmen from various ranks and AFSCs gathered during the April UTA for a B.O.L.D. session, a recurring monthly event facilitated by Master Sgt. Rafael Hernandez, 349th Air Mobility Wing first sergeant. The mentoring event, held annually as a speed mentoring session, provided Airmen with leadership insights from senior leaders across different specialties.

B.O.L.D. is designed to help Airmen sharpen essential leadership skills, foster mentorship, and encourage the development of future leaders within the Air Force. Through facilitated discussions and interactive workshops, participants are given tools to succeed in their careers and help communicate the mission’s vision.

This session featured discussions on leadership and career advancement, with presentations from Chief Master Sgts. Joe Gonzalez, 349th Air Mobility Wing command chief, Raymond Betts, 349th Maintenance Group superintendent and Mae Estoy, Aerospace Medicine squadron senior enlisted leader.

Chief Betts explained how awards boards work and provided guidance on crafting competitive performance statements.

"I appreciate all the great questions and interactions from members who come from different ranks and AFSCs. The perspective of networking goes a long way, and we can use our knowledge and experience, regardless of time in service, to solve any issue, he said.

Chief Gonzalez shared his leadership perspective and offered advice on how to continue advancing in the Air Force.

“The B.O.L.D. program provides an excellent opportunity for members to enhance their skills. This foundational development program, offered monthly, provides valuable insights and resources. My experience with the program last month was incredibly rewarding, allowing me to connect with fellow members and share perspectives on leadership development, including the path to Chief. I encourage Airmen to attend the upcoming events.” Gonzalez said.

Chief Estoy discussed the importance of Airmen Leadership Qualities and how they impact individual performance.

These annual leadership insights provide Airmen the chance to connect directly in small groups with senior leaders to ask individualized questions and excel in their career fields.
