Coast Guard Auxiliary to conduct Boating Safety Training Classes at Travis Published Feb. 19, 2010 By 349th Air Mobility Wing Safety office TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 349 Wing Safety office has arranged for the Coast Guard Auxiliary to conduct Boating Safety Training Classes at Travis AFB on 20 Mar. A boating safety course is not required to operate a watercraft in California, however, there is a bill working its way through the California legislature to make it mandatory. Additionally, in 70% of the recreational watercraft fatalities, the operator did not have any formal training (and over 1/3 involved alcohol). This is a great opportunity for Travis personnel who do operate boats/jet skis to get some free training and get ahead of the possible change in the law. Also, many insurance companies will provide up to a 20% discount on insurance for folks who have attended formal training. Class Details: - 20 Mar: Bldg 206, Training Room, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. - Boating safety materials can be purchased for $25, however they are NOT REQUIRED for the course - Active Duty, Reserves and Civilians members will have priority--dependent members will be accommodated on a space available basis. - To sign up, send an e-mail to 349amwsafetyoffice@travis.af.mil. Please include name, unit, email and phone number.
