Travis Week, Air Force Ball coming in September

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  Travis Team will hold 15 events, some occurring on-base and some off-base. The off-base activities start with the Capitol Air Show at Mather Field Sep 11-12. Travis will contribute a KC-10 Extender air tanker, a C-17 Globemaster and a C-5 Galaxy for static displays, plus displays of equipment the 615th Contingency Response Wing.

The Band of the Golden West and military working dogs will be there as well as a host of Travis servicemembers to talk about the service and explain the displays. Throughout the week, teams of Travis military members will visit local high schools to talk about what we do. On Sept. 13, the Mobility rock band will perform at Suisun City's Harbor plaza at 6 p.m. The Travis Honor Guard will precede the band's concert with a flag ceremony.

Travis Team is working with Habitat for Humanity to find a time that week to help the international nonprofit rehabilitate several houses in the area. Local community leaders will tour the base Sept. 16 and attend the unveiling of plans for the proposed new air museum which is slated to be built near the base's hospital gate once funding is secured.

On Sept. 17, the base is hosting a career day for about 500 middle school students from Vacaville, Fairfield and Suisun City schools, showing different careers ranging from pilots to firefighters. The week wraps up on Sept. 19 with the appearance of the Air Force Band of the Golden West's jazz band at the Vacaville Jazz Festival in downtown Vacaville.

The Air Force Ball 'Travis Team Salutes Solano County" will on Saturday, Sept. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. for social hour, dinner at 7 p.m., at Hangar 837. Dress is Military Mess Dress/Semi-Formal, or black Tie/Formal for civilians. Tickets will be available as of Aug. 26 at the 349th Public Affairs office. Ticket prices will be set at a graduating costs (enlisted, officer and civilian) but have yet to be determined. Call the 349th PA office at 424-3936 prior for cost. Cash and exact change only.
