Travis renames C-17 aircraft in honor of Solano County Published March 18, 2011 By 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Seven C-17 Globemaster IIIs were named in honor of the seven cities of Solano County in a ceremony, Mar. 17. The unveiling ceremony commemorated the support Travis receives from Fairfield, Suisun City, Vacaville, Dixon, Benicia, Vallejo and Rio Vista. Each city was represented by their mayor or a representative. Guests were comprised of civic leaders, congressional representatives and distinguished guests from Air Mobility Command. The C-17 Globemaster III has the capability to rapidly respond to a full spectrum of contingencies worldwide. It has been employed in combat operations, humanitarian relief and peacekeeping missions. Its ability to carry outsized cargo into austere airfields is essential in deploying large-scale mechanized forces to global locations.
