349th member selected to serve on Air Force Association Reserve Council

Senior Master Sgt. Darren A. Thews, a production supervisor with the 945th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, was recently selected as a member of the Air Force Association Reserve Council for fiscal year 2011/2012.

Sergeant Thews will be on the AFA Reserve Council with membership for the next two years and explore potential policy and language changes that may benefit the Air Force Reserve family.

He was born in Hammond, Indiana and he enlisted in the United States Air Force in September of 1983. His active duty background includes working on the F-111A Type Aircraft as a Bombing Navigation Radar Technician. His assignments sent him to Mt. Home, Idaho and RAF Upper Heyford, England. After six years of active duty, Sergeant Thews was honorably discharged and returned to the Chicago area  and elected to try the civilian sector. In November of 1989 he took a position at United Airlines as a Radio and electric technician in San Francisco, Calif. He re-enlisted back into the Air Force Reserve in April of 1990. Sergeant Thews then joined the maintainers of the C-5 Galaxy as a communication navigation technician. Activated as an expediter, Jan. 2005 until Sept. 2007. He spent the final year of activation as a maintenance operations center controller, deployed and became part of the 945th AMXS from the date of it's stand-up.

The Reserve Advisory Council is composed of officers, enlisted members and civilians who serve (or have served) in the Air Force Reserve. They represent the different constituencies of the Air Force Reserve. The Reserve Council members are responsible in assisting in the development of Air Force policy recommendations on quality of life and quality of service issues, identify and prioritize quality of life and quality of service issues, driven by legislative action; prepare input, to include background information, and recommend action by the Air Force on these issues and makes recommendations to the Air Force Reserve through AF/RE on policy issues which impact Air Force Reservists.
