Col. (ret) Dick Hum and his wife, Jane Ng, share a moment of joy and laughter at last year's Operation Gratitude champagne brunch, at the California Veterans Home, Yountville.

Col. Hum, who had lived at the Home since 1996, and was a trustee of the American Veterans, Department of California, passed away May 22, after a brief illness, at the age of 86. He was well-known and loved by many family, friends, and Airmen of the 349th Air Mobility Wing. He had a stellar, and interesting career in the U.S. Air Force, during which he commanded the only U.S. AF Human Intelligence Organization at Pentagon level, the 7602nd Air Intelligence Group.

A memorial service and burial with full military honors was held at the Yountville Veterans Home, May 28th.

Col. Hum's legacy was carried on by his son, Richard, who retired as a colonel after 30 years as an Air Force chaplain, and his grandson, Brian, who is a captain assigned to Ramstein Air Base, Germany, The captain recently completed his third tour of duty flying combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan.
