Terry Kirkbride, 349th Maintenance Squadron, was presented a Bronze Star medal June 25, 2011. Col. Jay Flournoy, 349th Air Mobility Wing commander, cited some of the Chief's actions that earned him the medal, while serving "outside the wire" in Southwest Asia. The Chief said, "I'm 51 years old, and always done maintenance, so this took me way outside what I've known. "It was scary sometimes, but so worth every second."
