"Ride your bike to work day" is held in McMurdo every June. This is a south continent event traditionally held here, where everyone is invited to grab one of the many station mountain bikes and join in the fun.

Yeah, we didn't quite break any records or put a dent in the vehicle fuel consumption for the day. We planned on riding a short distance from one of the local dorms to the galley, the main hub of the station. Our path was of course challenging with the inch of snow on the ground, wind gust blowing in from the sound at 10-15 mph and the variety of snow drift obstacles all around. However, we all had a blast trying to peddle the 200 foot trail outlined for us to follow. But still it was just simple silly fun where once again I can say I did it. I rode a bike to work while wintering over in Antarctica, another box checked off the bucket list.
