- After 48 hours your sense of smell and taste improve
- After two to 12 weeks your circulation can improve and lung functions may increase up to 30 percent
- After one to nine months coughing, sinus congestion and shortness of breath may decrease as cilia function return to your lungs
- After one year the risk of heart disease may be cut in half of that of a current smoker
- After five years the risk of lung cancer may be as much a half as a current smoker
- After 15 years your life expectancy should be equal to that of a nonsmoker
