349th AMW 75th Anniversary, Trainer Aircraft Published Sept. 7, 2018 By Kenneth Wright, 349th Public Affairs 349 AMW TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Continuing our celebration of our 75th anniversary, this week we take a look at five airplanes the newly established 349th Troop Carrier Wing flew from 1949 to 1956 at Hamilton Air Force Base, California. All five were trainer aircraft that helped hone the flying skills of our Reserve Citizen Airmen following World War II and through the Korean War. The countless hours of flying training missions over the Northern California coast served them well during times of war and peace in the decades that followed.
