As October comes to an end, many people will take time out of their stressful schedules and have some fun celebrating Halloween with trick or treating or getting together with friends and family for a party. Whether or not you celebrate, it is important to watch out for the little ones, and to stay safe!

If you are going to, or having a party, don’t spend this Halloween filling up on junk food and sweets. Give yourself and your guests healthier choices and nutritious treats. Fruits and vegetables are part of a well-balanced diet, and can be refreshing and tasty. They also provide essential vitamins and minerals and fiber, so they keep you from feeling sluggish; having more energy means you can do more trick or treating!

Even on Halloween everyone need a good night’s rest. Insufficient sleep is linked to an increased risk for the development of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.

Do not trick-or-treating alone, walking in groups with a trusted adult is best. Remember to look both ways before crossing the street, and use established crosswalks wherever possible. Using reflective tape on costumes or holding a flashlight while trick-or-treating helps you see, and helps others see you.

Remember if you use decorative contact lenses, lower your risk for serious eye injury by using contact lenses precautions - they are not toys!

Have a fun and safe Halloween!
