TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 349th Air Mobility Wing welcomed its new Wing Chaplain, Colonel Lyle Von Seggern, at the Sept. A-Flight Newcomer's Briefing. 
"It is a joy to be here," said Col. Von Seggern. "I give this Wing an'outstanding.'" 
Chaplain "Von" as he prefers to be called, will be commuting from San Antonio, Texas, where he still lives with his family. The Wing can look forward seeing him on the B-Flight of each month after his initial in-processing.
Chaplain Von Seggern was born July 28, 1951, in Fremont, Nebraska. He graduated from Logan View High School, Hooper, Nebraska, in 1969. He enlisted and was selected to attend the Air Force Academy Prep School, Colorado, and graduated in 1970. He was then appointed to be a cadet at the Air Force Academy, Colorado. After almost two years of attending the Academy, he felt called to enter the ministry. He graduated from Midland Lutheran College, Fremont, Nebraska, in 1974, and received his Master of Divinity degree from Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 1978. He was ordained a minister in the Nebraska Synod of the Lutheran Church in America on July 2nd, 1978 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Scribner, Nebraska. 
Chaplain Von Seggern served as Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Madison, Nebraska, and Trinity Lutheran Church, Winside, Nebraska, from 1978 until he entered the Air Force as an active duty chaplain on November 28, 1986. He served at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, Howard Air Force Base, Panama, and Little Rock Air Fore Base, Arkansas, while on active duty. During his assignment to Little Rock AFB, Chaplain Von Seggern was deployed for Operation Desert Storm. After leaving active duty in September, 1991, to help his ailing father on the family farm, he became an individual mobilization augmentee IMA Reserve Chaplain for the Senior Chaplain at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. He also served Christ Lutheran Church, Pierce, Nebraska, from 1991 to 1996, and
