8/27/2012 - TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 4th Air Force vice commander made her first official visit to the 349th Air Mobility Wing here Aug. 16-19.

Brig. Gen. Pamela Milligan toured the Reserve wing to learn more about the diverse mission and its partnership with the active-duty host-wing.
During the first part of the visit, General Milligan sat-in on the 349th Commander's Conference. After two days of meeting with the commanders, she had the opportunity to brief them on force development. Before departing, she shared her impression of the wing's leadership.

"It's really been enlightening," the general said. "Your leadership is moving fast and furious, getting things accomplished. This wing is in really good hands."
The general's visit included tours of various wing components, to include medical processes at David Grant Medical Center, training capabilities for expeditionary medical support, new maintenance and operations facilities, aerial port operations, and the unique memorial affairs mission.

Throughout the tour, General Milligan met with Airmen of all ranks - from the newest enlistees in the Development and Training Flight, to the senior enlisted members of the Top 3. Along the way, she asked questions and solicited feedback.

"We're in a time of remarkable change," she told one group of Airmen. "The Numbered Air Forces are centralizing what we do for our wings. We need that feedback to know what's working and what you need."

In addition to touring the wing and meeting with Airmen, General Milligan held an officer's call where she shared some advice on retention, budget, ancillary training and operations tempo with members of the Reserve officer corps.

Before departing Travis, General Milligan shared the impression her tour has given her of the 349th AMW.

"Being part of Air Force Reserve Command, I get to see how different each wing is, and geography plays a part in those differences," she said. "Northern California brings a very tech savvy force. I've been impressed by how progressive the wing is and how everybody seems to be on top of their game.

"The relationship with the active duty here is phenomenal," she added. "I didn't grow up in a wing like this - not as much camaraderie, not as much innovation. I've been very impressed."
