From the inception of the 349th Troop Carrier Group on Nov. 1, 1943, the Airmen of what would ultimately become the 349th Air Mobility Wing, have flown 17 different aircraft. The first of those, the C-47 Skytrain, was flown during World War II, serving as glider tow aircraft, aeromedical evacuation and cargo airlift into the European Theatre of Operations. The courage and commitment of the Airmen of the fledgling 349th TCG set the bar high for those who would follow in their footsteps over the next 75 years and beyond.
